From the 10th to the 17th of June, in Dublin, in the Royal Dublin Society (RDS), the 50th International Eucharistic Congress took place. The sisters of the Irish Delegation were able to give their contribution, with their prayer and offering, but above all with their presence with an apostolic-vocational display in the Central Area. They were also present through their service in the sacristy in the vesting areas and as those responsible for the liturgical co-ordination. This is a service which began in February when the Delegation made a sister available for the liturgical consultation and co-ordination for the Eucharistic Congress. During the Congress itself, a team composed of 3 Disciples of the Divine Master together with 24 other volunteers carried out this service with delicacy and love. During the opening ceremony, two of our sisters, Sr. M. Gregorina Malagon and Sr. M. Lea Monkaju, represented their countries of origin during the celebration of cultures which are present in Ireland. Galleria foto
Many people stopped by to visit the display, leaving their prayer intentions for the sisters to remember in their daily prayers. They appreciated the artistic-creative work of the sisters and were able to watch a multi-media presentation which was made up of various clips of our life and mission from all over the world. The sisters gave thanks to God for the presence of the Daughters of St. Paul, who came over from England with their apostolic display. In this way, we were able to present the beauty of the Pauline Family.
Some of the high points of the Congress were the Eucharistic Procession, the living reminder that Jesus continues to walk among us, and then, the Statio Orbis on the 17th of June, where 80,000 people gathered in the stadium at Croke Park to celebrate the Eucharist which was presided over by the papal legate, Marc Cardinal Quellet, and to listen to the live message sent from the Holy Father. The sisters also recall with affection the great bond which developed among us and the other volunteers who were working with us in the sacristy.
We thank the Lord for the great gift of being able to host the Eucharistic Congress in Ireland and for the active collaboration given by the sisters here, and from the various circumscriptions who sent leaflets, promotional literature etc, in the various languages. We trust that the Master will bless our efforts for his Kingdom, and that a new love for Jesus in the Eucharist will grow, especially among the youth.
