                                                          Vocation stories: Sr. Muriel

Country of origin: Ireland

The story of my vocation begins with my Baptism, nourished by the Eucharist, strengthened by Confirmation and guided by Mary as a member of the “Legion of Mary”.

A vocation to the religious life was in my mind from an early age.  I liked the idea of being a bride of Christ, living for Him, working in and for the Church, his Body whose mission is the salvation of souls.

Eucharistic Adoration attracted me and after much prayer for discernment, the Holy Spirit led me to the Disciples of the Divine Master whose primary mission is Perpetual Adoration of the Eucharistic Jesus. Taking turns the Sisters kneel to adore and listen to Him. One day as I was pondering on my Calling in life I read Psalm 45 “Listen, my child, attend to my words, forget your own nation and your ancestral home and come to the land that I will show you.” Instantly I felt that these words were addressed to me and taking a leap of faith I left for Rome as the Congregation had no convent in Ireland. I departed joyfully and there I found my treasure.

Community life has much to offer, uniting our talents and energy, all working for the same cause: the spreading of the Kingdom of God on earth. I am so grateful to God for having chosen me and entrusting me with such an important mission to work with Him in bringing souls to salvation.

I believe a religious vocation is God calling us to unite ourselves to him more closely, to continue his mission at this time in the history of the world.

It has been said: “More things are wrought by prayer than this world ever dreams of”.
A life of prayer is a life empowered and religious life is primarily a life of prayer.
